Single direction Solenoids can be used where only single direction
motor rotation is necessary, such as for capstan winches. There are
advantages of using a single direction solenoid over a heavy duty
switch. One is shorter runs of heavy-duty wiring, thus saving cost.
Multiple input sources are possible, such as a foot switch, a
remote control, etc. There is also less of a chance of arcing,
which can reduce the life of electrical contacts.
